The last months before martial law are associated with a period of increasing nervousness, anxiety and fear of an uncertain tomorrow. In Janusz Koman's work, this time sounds like an ideal antidote to the worries of everyday life. It shines with the rays of the sun, radiates warmth and peace. A previously unpublished session with Andrzej Olejniczak and Wieslaw Wilczkiewicz on an album for the first time! The material, recorded in 1981, sounds fresh to this day and soothes all worries with its sound. Janusz Koman combined here pop hitness with jazz lightness, which he always did well. The songs flow slowly, are full of extremely melodic themes and well-balanced solo performances. Keyboard parts and guitar accompaniment by Wiesław Wilczkiewicz have a great influence on the sound of the whole. He, along with the saxophonist Andrzej Olejniczak, is also responsible for the solo parts. The material on the album "Afternoon" was prepared on the basis of original tapes from the archives of Radio Poznań and remastered in Sweden by Andrzej Poniatowski. This is the third part of the series of CDs documenting the achievements Koman Band from the 70s and 80s of the last century, after the well-received "Continuation" and "Solar Suite". (GAD Records) |

Aufnahmen: Studio des Polnischen Rundfunks in Lodz, Anfang 1979 In 1979 Janusz Koman composed music for the ballet. Music that few heard afterwards, and certainly no one danced it. Till today. "Solar Suite" is one of the most surprising and unfinished projects by Janusz Koman from the 1970s. Although in the history of this decade he went down primarily as a composer, arranger and leader of the Koman Band, which worked, among others, With Krystyna Pronko, Zdzislawa Sosnicka and Stan Borys, his interests extended much further. Koman spent a decade writing instrumental music, looking for inspiration in the world of jazz and rock. He was also interested in larger musical forms. Made with the Grand Theater in Łódź in mind, "Solar Suite" is one of them - a long, multi-threaded story recorded by the Koman Band with the accompaniment of the Polish Radio and Television Orchestra in Łódź under the baton of Henryk Debich and the Completorium acoustic guitar duo. There is a place for jazz-rock solo performances, film momentum, and even absolute free! All closed in forty minutes,with the main theme returning like an echo. Solar Suite" was reconstructed from the original radio tapes from the archives of Polish Radio and remastered by Andrzej Poniatowski. This is the second part of the series of CDs documenting the achievements of Koman Band from the 70s and 80s of the last century. (GAD Records) |

Continuation | ||
Recordings from 1974-1975 | ||
Released: | 2021 | A funk machine that went down in the history of Polish music as the group responsible for the phenomenal sound of Krystyna Pronko's first two albums. The Koman Band, however, had much more to offer. And although nothing came of the production of the band's original album in the mid-1970s, it's high time to change this state of affairs. The project carried out by Janusz Koman since 1973 was a unique phenomenon on the Polish market. The extensive line-up, dominated by a perfectly sounding trumpet section, worked both in the swinging songs "House of a bad girl", "In the country of silence", as well as in longer forms discovering the solo possibilities of the musicians: "Darkness golden, darkness silver", "Continuation"). Koman Band in its first incarnation was a real funk beast with a unique sound, which was also not afraid of bold journeys into the world of fusion. "Continuation" opens a series of CDs documenting the achievements of Janusz Koman and the Koman Band. The entire material was remastered from the original tapes from the archives of Polish Radio. A vinyl version is in preparation.(GAD Records) |
