Her professional debut was her participation in the Young Talents concert at KFPP Opole '76. In 1977-79 she worked with the Sami Swoi group, with whom she performed at many national and international jazz festivals, including Jazz nad Odrą in Wrocław, Old Jazz Meeting in Warsaw, as well as in Hanover and Minchengladbach (FRG). She won 3rd prize in the jazz vocalists competition at the Lublin Jazz Vocalists' Meetings in 1977. In 1979 she performed at KFPP in Opole, where she sang Ludmiła Jakubczak's hit Szeptem. At the Sopot '79 festival she won 3rd prize in the record companies' competition for her interpretation of the song "As the years pass" |

In 1980, she decided
to pursue an independent career. She began with a series of radio recordings and participation in stage programs. She collaborated with, among others, Zbigniew Górny, Janusz Koman, Jerzy Satanowski, Wojciech Trzciński, Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremi Przybora, Jonasz Kofta, Wojciech Młynarski. She sang in "Nieszpory ludziierskie" by Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. She lent her voice to Dorota Stalińska, who played the role of Hanka Ordonówna in the film "Love will forgive you everything", and sang an aria from "Sabat Mater" in the film "Axeman". She gave concerts in Poland and abroad, including in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Japan and in Polish community centres in Canada and the USA. In the years 1986-94 she recorded and performed with guitarist Janusz Strobel. She has made TV recitals, including: "What a Girl Dreams About", "Sing Jazz", "Vie privée, or... Hanna Banaszak", "The Lady with Temperament", "Wołanie Eurydyki", "Zanim idziesz do brzeg", "Od przedszkolasz do Opole", "Benefis H. Banaszak". In 1986 she won the Grand Prix at the Europopstar song festival in Knokke (Belgium). Her repertoire includes standards of pop and jazz music from the 30s and 40s, Polish hits from the interwar period, jazz-rock themes, ballads and contemporary songs, operetta and opera arias.
