In 1979, Janusz Koman composed music for a ballet. Music that few have heard since, and certainly no one has danced to it. Until today. "Sunny Suite" is one of Janusz Koman's most surprising and unfinished projects from the 1970s. Although he is remembered in the history of that decade primarily as a composer, arranger and leader of the Koman Band, which worked with Krystyna Prońko, Zdzisława Sośnicka and Stan Borys, his interests extended much further. Koman wrote instrumental music throughout the decade, seeking inspiration in the world of jazz and rock. He was also interested in larger forms of music. The "Sunny Suite" produced for the Grand Theatre in Łódź is one of them – a long, multi-threaded story recorded by Koman Band with the accompaniment of the Polish Radio and Television Orchestra in Łódź conducted by Henryk Debich and the acoustic guitar duo Completorium. There is room here for jazz-rock solos, cinematic panache, and even absolute free! Everything enclosed in forty minutes, with the main motif returning like an echo. "Sunny Suite" was reconstructed from original radio tapes from the Polish Radio archives and remastered by Andrzej Poniatowski in Sweden. This is the second part of a series of albums documenting the achievements of Koman Band from the 70s and 80s of the last century. (GAD Records) |
